When Chris (Christian Bale) receives a visit from old friend Toni (Lee Ross), the past is suddenly brought to the fore. Toni reminds Chris of their pact to escape suburban life, while Chris fondly recalls his university days in Paris, where he met both wild child Annick (Elsa Zylberstein) and his wife, Marion (Emily Watson). Living the life he vowed to avoid, a conflicted Chris struggles between reliving the past and facing the present.
