In this gentle family comedy from writer Neil Simon, long-lost father Max Dugan (Jason Robards) tries to reconnect with his estranged daughter, Nora (Marsha Mason), who's struggling with the usual trials of single motherhood. But Max's attempts at reconciliation read more like bribery, and his shady past comes between Nora and her cop boyfriend (Donald Sutherland). Matthew Broderick makes his film debut as Nora's teenage son.
