Satyajit Ray directs this thought-provoking examination of feminism in 1960s India, a story about a traditional housewife who's exposed to the working world and makes a radical new friend (Vicky Redwood). At first, Arati Mazumder (Madhabi Mukherjee) takes a job to help her husband (Anil Chatterjee) make ends meet. But when he's fired, she becomes the sole breadwinner -- and their relationship is never the same.
