Liam, a young Liverpool boy with a speech impediment, and his family struggle during England's pre-war depression. Things go from sad to worse as Liam's father loses his job and begins blaming the nation's woes on the Jews and the Irish. Liam must learn to cope with his father's fascist beliefs and soon comes face to face with the violence that accompanies it.
