Hunted by all sides -- by Hitler, the Allies and the Italian government -- it's a cowering and fallen Il Duce (Rod Steiger) who's portrayed in this biopic about Mussolini's last days. Helmed by Carlo Lizzani, the international production also features a fine against-type performance by Henry Fonda as a German cardinal as well as excellent turns by Franco Nero as an Italian officer and Lisa Gastoni as Mussolini's mistress, Claretta Petacci.
