When an insurance company hires hard-boiled detective James "Jim" Hanvey (Guy Kibbee) to recover a stolen emerald necklace that belongs to a wealthy man's daughter, it doesn't take long for the sleuth to trace it to the girl's boyfriend, who was perpetrating a good-natured hoax. But when the jewel disappears for real, the insurers put Hanvey back on the case, only to have him discover that, this time, it might be an inside job.
