This coming-of-age love story set in the 1950s introduces the three Abbott sisters (Liv Tyler, Jennifer Connelly and Joanna Going), who are the epitome of beauty, wealth and success -- at least in the eyes of two working-class brothers. While shy Doug (Joaquin Phoenix) idolizes the girls from afar, his older brother, Jacey (Billy Crudup), boldly seduces his conquests, motivated by envy and resentment as well as desire.
