In Gene Autry's final film as a singing cowboy, downsizing strikes the Old West when the advent of the telegraph leaves Pony Express rider Gene out of a job. He pursues a gig as a stagecoach mail carrier but soon uncovers a ring of saboteurs. With the help of sidekick Smiley Burnette and trusty horse Champion, Gene must restore law and order to the fledgling U.S. postal service. Howard Wright co-stars as the crooked Clyde Vesey.
