Fear Strikes Out is the courageous true story of Red Sox outfielder Jimmy Piersall (Anthony Perkins), who loved baseball so much that he endured a lifetime of mental illness while still batting a .272 average over 17 seasons in the major leagues. Amazingly, he managed to overcome his difficulties in spite of the presence of his hard-driving, overbearing father (Karl Malden).
