Handsome peasant Fanfan (Gérard Philipe) joins the army to avoid a shotgun wedding, encouraged by a phony fortuneteller (Gina Lollobrigida) who predicts that the military will lead him to fame, glory and the hand of the king's daughter. Although he's been duped, Fanfan decides to make the false prediction into reality. Award-winning filmmaker Christian-Jaque directs this swashbuckling classic set in 18th-century France.
