Kinji Fukasaku's tale about a self-serving screen actor won Japanese Academy awards including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor and Best Actress. Threatened by an up-and-coming star (Daijiro Harada), Ginshiro (Morio Kazama) convinces Yasu (Mitsuro Hirata) to marry Ginshiro's pregnant mistress (Keiko Matsuzaka) to avoid bad press. But Ginshiro doesn't stop there; he asks devoted Yasu to perform a death-defying stunt to save his movie career.
