Retired professor Emile (Ian McKellen) travels to Canada from his home in England to receive a lifetime achievement award from the University of Victoria and to visit his niece (Deborah Kara Unger) and her 10-year-old daughter (Theo Crane). But for Emile, the trip soon unleashes regrets, remorse and a torrent of painful memories of his life in Canada before he emigrated. Carl Bessai helmed this profoundly moving character study.
