Rodrigo Diaz de Bivar (Charlton Heston), aka El Cid, unites warring factions and saves 11th century Spain from invasion by the Muslim hordes. Sophia Loren is ravishing as Jimena, the woman who loves Rodrigo despite the fact that he killed her father during an honorable duel. Anthony Mann directed and Miklos Rozsa wrote the vaulting score for this movie, which is based on real historical events and features some stunning battle scenes.
