Jessie Bourne (Barbara Stanwyck) discovers that her husband, Brandon (James Mason), is having an affair with a model (Ava Gardner). Finding solace in sympathetic pal Mark (Van Heflin), Jessie takes the infidelity in stride. But when the model dies, the dynamics of the Bournes' relationship change yet again. Cyd Charisse, Nancy Davis and Gale Sondergaard also star in director Mervyn LeRoy's high society melodrama.
