John Hough's stylish direction boosts this freewheeling action flick starring Peter Fonda as would-be race driver Larry Rayder, who teams with mechanic Deke Sommers (Adam Roarke) to steal $150,000 from a grocery store. The twosome takes it on the lam, picking up fiery hitchhiker Mary Coombs (Susan George) along the way. But they have to burn rubber to outpace the grizzled cop (Vic Morrow) chasing them fanatically across the California landscape.
