Captain Cassidy (Cary Grant) is the pilot of a United States submarine, the Copperfin. As he navigates the ship from its west coast port, his orders are a secret, and the destination is the city of Tokyo. Traveling through the treacherous enemy waters, Cassidy knows that he'll soon reach the shore, where he's been ordered to strand a meteorologist (John Ridgely) so he can capture valuable information to be used for future air assaults over Japan.
