Based on a true story, this first-rate drama set in late 18th century Scotland chronicles the exploits of William Deacon Brodie (Billy Connelly), a respected town council member and accomplished carpenter who falls from grace when his secret life is exposed. Besides indulging in gambling, women and alcohol, Brodie tries to pilfer a substantial sum from Edinburgh's city coffers -- and gets caught. Will his genial charm save him from the gallows?
