John Devlin (John Wayne) and his new bride, Sandy (Vera Ralston), hope to put aside his gambling past and make a killing by investing their nest egg into real estate that they're sure the railroad will want. But dishonest scoundrels also know about the railroad's plans to extend into Dakota, and they're willing to destroy John, Sandy and many local farmers to make a profit.
