Directed by William Wyler and Howard Hawks, this 1936 classic follows Barney (Edward Arnold), a lumberjack who marries for his career even though he loves another woman, Lotta (Frances Farmer). Heartbroken, Lotta settles for Barney's friend (Walter Brennan), with whom she conceives their daughter, also named Lotta. Years later, Barney and his son (Joel McCrea) both grow enamored of the younger Lotta (Farmer), who ends up breaking their hearts.
