Matt (John Wayne), an American circus owner, tours Europe in search of his alcoholic ex-girlfriend, Lily (Rita Hayworth). Lily ran away when her husband fell to his death from the trapeze after learning about her affair with Matt. Years later, she returns to watch her daughter rehearse; can everyone find the happy ending they want in this old-fashioned, spectacle-filled Hollywood romance?
