In Claude Sautet's 1972 French romantic classic, Cesar (Yves Montand), a middle-aged scrap-iron dealer, and Rosalie (Romy Schneider), a young woman, are a happy couple. Or are they? When Rosalie's old flame, David the artist (Sami Frey), resurfaces, Cesar becomes deeply jealous, alienating Rosalie. Torn between the two, Rosalie finds it hard to choose … until the end, when she decides to break the triangle forever.
