Jigger Pine (Richard Whorf) and his traveling jazz band face rejection, alcoholism, heartbreak and tragedy as they try to make it big -- with a little help from a gangster who books them at his roadhouse -- in this Oscar-nominated musical drama. Director Elia Kazan co-stars as happy-go-lucky clarinet player Nickie Haroyen, in a band that always seems two steps away from its big break. Anatole Litvak directs.
