Gifted director Mike Leigh examines the enduring class conflicts in British society in his made-for-television trilogy. In Bleak Moments, a secretary named Sylvia (Anne Raitt) longs for romance to break up the sadness of a life devoted to caring for a mentally challenged sibling, Hilda (Sarah Stephenson). Peter (Eric Allan), a teacher, somewhat fills that need, but Norman, a musician who rents out her garage (Mike Bradwell), complicates matters.
