Nicknamed "Yardbird," Parker was a virtuoso saxophonist whose innovations revolutionized jazz. Despite his musical genius, Parker was hopelessly addicted to drugs. At the film's center looms the hulking presence of Forest Whitaker, who delivers a great performance in a complex role.
