Adapted from William Thackeray's novel Vanity Fair, director Rouben Mamoulian's satirical film is notable as the first movie featuring the three-strip Technicolor process. The story follows the ups and downs of scrappy, ambitious Becky Sharp (Oscar-nominated Miriam Hopkins), who uses her good looks, intelligence and wit to climb the ranks of 19th century British society. Frances Dee, Cedric Hardwicke, Nigel Bruce and Billie Burke costar.
