In this tale of love and betrayal, Jared Leto is Basil, a turn-of-the-century English lad who's under the intense scrutiny of his bitter father. Basil befriends John (Christian Slater), a mysterious stranger who saves him from drowning and who introduces him to the beautiful Julia (Claire Forlani), with whom Basil immediately falls in love. In the heat of passion, he promises Julia his inheritance, but soon discovers he's been deceived all along.
