Asphalt

  (1929)
Albert Holk (Gustav Frohlich) is a policeman caught between his desires and his duties when he allows himself to be seduced by Elsa Kramer (Betty Amann), a beautiful woman accused of robbing a jewelry store. Directed by Joe May, this 1929 film was one of the last productions of the German Expressionist period, and Amann's ability to win over the cop with little more than her expressive eyes showcases the lost power of the silent film.
