In Mozart's pastoral opera, Ascanio, son of the goddess Venus, is promised in marriage to Sylvia, a girl he's never met. Determined to test the girl's virtue, Venus instructs Ascanio to pose as a foreigner to see how Sylvia reacts. If Sylvia falls in love with Ascanio's alter ego and then discovers his true nature, she'll pass Venus's test. Diana Damrau, Iris Kupke, Sonia Prina and Charles Reid star in this rendition directed by David Hermann.
