A young woman must deal with the enormous guilt she feels over her mother's death in this psychological drama from India. Mohan Sharma (Tarun Bose) holds his daughter Uma (Sharmila Tagore) responsible for his beloved wife's death in childbirth. He treats the girl badly, only behaving nicely when he gets drunk at night. As a result, Uma grows up hating herself. But things take a turn when a sensitive poet (Dharmendra) falls for the unhappy beauty.
