Director Chris Newby's haunting drama follows devoutly religious Christine Carpenter (Natalie Morse), a 14th century peasant girl. Facing a bleak future, she opts for a life of seclusion and worship sealed inside a church devoted to the Virgin Mary, where Christine's sequestration evokes a series of beautiful visions and personal revelations. Meanwhile, her mother (Toyah Willcox) clashes with a self-serving priest (Christopher Eccleston).
