Dave (LeVar Burton) is a poor black teenager growing up in the Deep South in the 1930s. Spending his days working as a field hand, Dave becomes frustrated with how the local white folks look down on him and ponders buying a gun so people will give him the proper respect. Dave's mother (Madge Sinclair) expresses her disapproval at his decision to purchase the weapon, but her words falls on deaf ears. Peter Fonda narrates.
