By the dawn of its fifth season, "All in the Family" was still No. 1 in the Nielsen ratings, and the network was poised to make "The Jeffersons" a bona fide spinoff. That means that with neighbors George and Louise (Sherman Helmsley and Isabel Sanford) moving to Manhattan, Gloria (Sally Struthers) and Michael (Rob Reiner) can move into the Jeffersons' house -- leaving more time for Archie (Carroll O'Conner) to pick on Edith (Jean Stapleton).
