Sally Fields plays a novice reporter at a Miami daily who becomes a pawn in the investigation of a liquor distributor (Paul Newman) suspected of being involved in a mob murder. Tragedy, scandal and cover-up follow. The film received Oscar nominations for Best Actor (Newman), Best Supporting Actress (Melinda Dillon) and Best Screenplay.
