Acclaimed documentarian Leon Gast filmed the Grateful Dead in 1974 when the band was in full flower. This offbeat movie features hallucinatory, animated images interspersed with performances of Grateful Dead hits such as "Truckin'," "Stella Blue," "Casey Jones" and "Sugar Magnolia." Gast also goes behind the scenes with the group and interviews many of their stalwart fans, all the while trying to grasp the unique allure of the Dead "experience."
