In the years following the Civil War, western Texas has become an uneasy meeting ground of two different cultures: one white, the other Native American. In what many consider his best screen performance, Elvis Presley stars as Pacer Burton, the son of a white rancher (John McIntire) and his beautiful Kiowan wife (Dolores Del Rio) who tries to act as a peacemaker between the warring cultures.
