A Thousand Clowns

An arrested adolescent at heart, 40-year-old Murray Burns (Jason Robards) -- fed up with the daily grind -- quits his job, refusing to yield to convention. Trouble is, he's the custodian of his 12-year-old nephew (Barry Gordon). Unless Murray surrenders to conformity by rejoining the rat race, the Child Welfare Board will whisk Nick away to foster care. The stellar cast includes Martin Balsam, who nabbed a Best Supporting Actor Oscar.
