Gunfighter John Wayne hires himself out to the highest bidder. But that doesn't mean he'll face down his friend Robert Mitchum, sheriff of the titular town and a man with a whopping drinking problem. After detoxification (in his jail cell!), Mitchum and the Duke team with James Caan and his sawed-off shotgun to help some outgunned farmers battle greedy ranchers.
