Boxer Alain Lefevre (Jean-Claude Van Damme) double crosses a Marseilles mobster and attempts to escape to America with the mobster's girlfriend. The plan backfires, and Alain instead joins the French Foreign Legion, which has made a habit of not asking about a soldier's past. In the legion, Alain and his fellow legionnaires suffer abuses at the hands of an overbearing Lt. Steinkampf (Steven Berkoff) in the sands of French Morocco.
